Grade II listed approved traditional box sash joinery, slimline heritage double glazing, and Accoya® durability in Burford.
A late-Georgian townhouse on Burford High Street required the complete replication and replacement of 14 deteriorated external timber box sash windows and a substantial six-panel solid timber front entrance door.
Located squarely within a designated Conservation Area, the property's fenestration was subject to rigorous scrutiny by West Oxfordshire conservation officers. Modern standard double-glazed PVC-U or aluminum units were strictly forbidden. The commission demanded authentic cords, weights, solid brass axle pulleys, and ultra-slender 18mm true glazing bars.
To satisfy conservation guidelines, we incorporated heritage ultra-slim double-glazed units filled with high-density Krypton gas. Achieving a commendable U-value of 1.3 W/m²K, they prevent condensation and heat loss while maintaining historic sightlines.
Window sashes and frames were machined from acetylated Accoya® timber paired with seasoned English oak cills. Accoya® exhibits virtually zero seasonal movement, ensuring sashes slide effortlessly without binding during wet winter months.
Operating on wax-dipped braided cotton sash cords, cast solid brass axle pulleys, and calibrated lead counterweights. Our integrated perimeter brush draught-proofing remains completely concealed within the parting beads and staff beads.
