Our standard lead time is typically between 6 to 10 weeks from final CAD approval and material sign-off. Freestanding furniture pieces may take 4 to 7 weeks, while expansive fitted libraries and bespoke architectural kitchens range from 8 to 12 weeks depending on current workshop scheduling and timber seasoning requirements. We confirm fixed milestones before manufacturing begins.
Yes. We specialize in conservation-grade fenestration approved by local planning authorities across Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, and the Cotswolds. We utilize traditional cords, lead counterweights, slimline 11mm or 12mm Krypton-filled heritage double glazing (with authentic sightlines), and narrow true glazing bars that satisfy English Heritage and Conservation Officer criteria.
Wood naturally expands and contracts tangentially with atmospheric humidity. We control for this scientifically: all timber is acclimated in our humidity-monitored workshop to 8–10% moisture content (the equilibrium for British centrally heated interiors). Structurally, we utilize floating raised-and-fielded panels, slotted screw fixings on table undercarriages, and traditional drawbored mortises that accommodate transverse seasonal breathing without splitting.
Solid timber is milled directly from a single hardwood tree trunk, providing immense structural longevity, repairability, and authentic hand-planed edges. For vast cabinet carcass walls and large wardrobe doors, we frequently pair solid timber face frames with high-grade FSC® birch ply cores pressed with matching consecutive 1.5mm thick hardwood veneers to provide maximum dimensional stability across broad surfaces without risking cupping.
For exterior joinery exposed to British rain and seasonal temperature swings, we strongly recommend Accoya® modified timber or seasoned Prime English Oak. Accoya® has a Class 1 durability rating with a 50-year manufacturer warranty against rot and will not warp, swell, or stick in winter, ensuring flawless operational clearances.
Yes, exclusively. We never subcontract installation to third-party general tradesmen. The senior cabinetmakers and joiners who machine, joint, and hand-finish your commission in our Minster Lovell workshop are the craftsmen who deliver and install it in your home. This ensures flawless scribing to historic walls and seamless accountability.
Absolutely. We warmly welcome clients and architects to visit our Minster Lovell studio by appointment. You can inspect your selected timber flitches, review joinery prototypes, observe dovetailing and mortising at the bench, and approve handwaxed stain finishes prior to assembly.
We predominantly apply micro-porous natural hardwax oils (such as Osmo Polyx) and traditional beeswax patinas. Unlike synthetic polyurethane lacquers that crack or peel when wood moves, hardwax oils penetrate deeply into wood pores. They resist red wine, coffee, and water stains while remaining breathable. If a surface is scratched over time, it can be spot-repaired without stripping the entire piece.
Our standard contract operates on three clear, transparent stage payments: a 40% initial deposit upon commission confirmation to secure workshop scheduling and procure certified timber; a 40% progress payment upon completion of workshop bench assembly prior to delivery; and the remaining 20% balance following successful white-glove on-site installation and client sign-off.
Yes. Following an initial architectural survey, we produce detailed 2D orthographic elevations, section details, and 3D perspectives showing exact internal shelf dimensions, lighting channel integrations, and door clearances. Cutting of certified hardwood begins only after you have reviewed and signed off on the approved drawings.
Yes. Cotswold Woodcraft & Joinery Ltd is committed to ecological forestry and holds FSC® Chain of Custody certification (FSC-C138942). We source exclusively from certified British and European timber merchants who practice continuous cover forestry and sustainable woodland management.
Yes. All our fitted libraries, studies, and media cabinetry feature routed internal service channels and removable service access panels. We collaborate closely with your electrical contractors or provide integrated warm 2700K high-CRI LED extrusions with concealed drivers and touch-dimmer sensors.
Routine maintenance is remarkably simple: dust with a soft, lint-free dry cloth and clean occasionally with a slightly damp cloth wrung out in warm water. Avoid chemical aerosol sprays or silicone polishes. Every 18 to 24 months, a light re-application of natural hardwax oil or beeswax revitalizes the patina and maintains water repellency.
Yes. While our workshop is based in Minster Lovell, we regularly undertake commissions for clients and architects across Gloucestershire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Buckinghamshire, Central London (Kensington, Chelsea, Richmond, Hampstead), and Bath. Our white-glove transport team operates nationwide.
Yes. In our workshop tooling bay, we grind custom cutter profiles to match historic Georgian, Victorian, or Jacobean mouldings from physical plaster or timber impressions taken during our site survey. We can replicate original architraves and skirting with millimetre fidelity.
Every commission crafted by Cotswold Woodcraft & Joinery Ltd is accompanied by our comprehensive 12-month craftsmanship warranty against defects in jointing, materials, and hardware. Beyond this initial warranty period, our joinery is built for generational longevity, and our workshop remains available for lifetime maintenance and refinishing advice.
